New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday clarified that its interim order of stay is confined only to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (Regulation of Livestock Markets) Rules. The court cleared its July 11 order extending the stay to Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (care and maintenance of case property animals) Rules 2017.
A Bench of Chief Justice J.S. Khehar and justice D.Y. Chandrachud passed the modified order after hearing additional solicitor general P.S. Narasi-mha, senior counsel Salman Khurshid, V. Giri, Siddharth Luthra and V.K. Biju.
Last week Mr Biju had brought to the notice of the court that the government had not placed the rules in Parliament and without Parliament approval, the rules could not be validated.
