Yogi government to get leaner and meaner look' in New Year
Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh will usher in the New Year with a leaner and meaner look.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has already finalised a proposal to shed excess flab by trimming 94 departments and reducing them to 37. This is being done to ensure greater administrative efficiently.
Once the merger of departments is done, the chief minister will start the exercise to reshuffle his Cabinet and also the officials.
Ministers and officers whose performance has been found lacking in recent months will be given marching orders.
At present, sectors of health, education, agriculture have multiple ministers and officials.
For instance, at present, there are four different ministries and ministers in the health sector — medical education, medical and health, family welfare and child welfare. This often leads to delays in policy making and also a conflict of interest.
“All the departments in one sector will be merged and one cabinet minister will head them. There may be state ministers for different wings in the sector but there will be uniformity and better coordination in decision making”, said a senior official.
Sources said that in his review meetings, the chief minister had found that files were moving from one department to another, delaying decision making and hence, he decided that merger of departments in the same sector should be done.
