Lucknow: A A 13-year-old girl of a government residential school in Bahraich district was allegedly raped by a youth, who has now been arrested.

SP Sabharaj Singh said that the girl, a student of a Kasturba Gandhi Awasiya Balika Vidyalaya in Bahraich, was raped on Thursday and the youth was arrested on Saturday night.

According to reports, the girl had complained of stomach ache on Thursday and wanted to go home for the weekend. The school warden sent her home with the mother of another student. The woman handed over the girl to a relative on the way who raped her.

The girl narrated her ordeal to her parents after reaching home, following which they lodged a complaint and a case was registered.

Basic education officer Shyam Kumar Tiwari said an FIR has also been registered against the warden of the hostel, Rashmi Srivastava, and two officials of the depa-rtment for alleged laxity.

State basic education minister Anupama Jaiswal said in a statement that henceforth, the warden would take children to their home in emergency situations.

“If the parents are co-ming to take their child, then they should bring their Aadhaar cards,” the minister said.
