BJP MLC meets Giriraj Singh, discuss Bihar politics

Earlier this week, Paswan had asked chief minister Kumar to hand over the reins of the government to BJP in Bihar and move to the Centre.

Patna: Amid ongoing political turmoil over the leadership issue in NDA, Dalit leader and BJP MLC Sanjay Paswan on Thursday met Union minister and party’s firebrand leader Giriraj Singh.

The meeting was held at the official residence of Giriraj Singh in New Delhi where both the leaders are said to have discussed the political scenario in Bihar.

Their meeting created a flutter in the political circle as it was being held almost a month after Mr Singh’s supporters urged the party leadership to declare him as the chief ministerial candidate of NDA in Bihar. Earlier this week, Mr Paswan had asked chief minister Kumar to hand over the reins of the government to BJP in Bihar and move to the Centre. When contacted on the phone, Mr Paswan told this newspaper that his meeting with Mr Singh in New Delhi was “personal but state politics was also discussed”. He, however, refused to comment whether he was among those, who have been in favour of promoting Mr Singh as the next chief ministerial candidate.

Mr Paswan also did not speak on Sushil Kumar Modi’s tweet in which he had declared chief minister Nitish Kumar “a captain of NDA in Bihar” and said that “he will remain its captain in the 2020 Assembly elections. When the captain is hitting 4s and 6s and defeating the rivals by inning, where is the question of any change”?
