New Delhi: On Monday, the Delhi police said the chargesheet filed in the Sunanda Pushkar case, which accuses her husband and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor of abetting in her suicide, was finalised on the basis of “medico-legal and forensic evidence”.

Mr Tharoor is the only person who has been arrayed as an accused in the case. In its charge sheet, which runs into 3,000 pages, the police has also alleged that Mr Tharoor had subjected his wife to cruelty.

A Delhi police spokesperson said that on the basis of the medico-legal and forensic evidence analysed during investigation as well as based on the opinion of the psychological autopsy experts, the charge sheet was filed in the city court.

Psychological autopsy is a reconstructive mental state evaluation to understand an individual’s mental status at and around the time of death. It is performed to identify the cause of death.

The Congress leader has been charged under Sections 498A (husband or his relative subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 306 (abetment of suicide) of the IPC.

The chargesheet said that Sunanda died within three years, three months, and 15 days of her marriage with Mr Tharoor.
