Supreme Court verdict sends wrong message: BJP

BJP yuva morcha head Poonam Mahajan said she was delighted with the apex court's order and grateful to the court for releasing Ms Sharma on bail.

New Delhi: The BJP’s youth wing on Tuesday said it will challenge the Supreme Court order asking its activist Priyanka Sharma to apologise for posting a meme of West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on social media, asserting the verdict has sent out a “wrong message.” The apex court granted bail to Ms Sharma, against whom a complaint was filed in the state for sharing a photo in which Ms Banerjee’s face was photoshopped onto actor Priyanka Chopra’s picture from a MET Gala event in New York.

The apex court also asked the BJP activist to apologise in writing on her release from jail. It observed freedom of speech ends when it infringes upon the rights of others.

BJP yuva morcha head Poonam Mahajan said she was “delighted” with the apex court’s order and “grateful” to the court for releasing Ms Sharma on bail.
