New Delhi: The newly-constituted cyber and information security (CIS) division in the home ministry will deal with all security issues regarding e-wallets and financial transactions using mobile phones as the first priority. The CIS division was created last week to examine issued concerning the cyber space.

Top home ministry sources said that in view of the sharp increase in digital transactions following demonetisation last year there was an urgent need to make e-wallets and other financial dealings using the mobile phones more “foolproof and totally secure”.’

“This is the main priority for us and even Home Minister Rajnath Singh during a meeting on Monday has also flagged the issue to making e-wallet much more secure. We have already started working in that direction since a large number of cases, though of relatively smaller amounts, are being reported from different parts of the country. A number of these case go unreported also but our assessment is that there has been sharp increase in such cases following demonetisation,” a senior ministry official said.
