Learn dignity of power from Lord Ram: BJP to Congress

Lucknow: The Congress on Wednesday said that if the BJP had followed in the footsteps of Lord Ram, a lot of problems in  Uttar Pradesh (UP) would have been solved.

“If you do not work for the welfare of the people, Lord Ram will not help (In reference to Ram temple issue). The BJP should first learn how to maintain the dignity of power from Lord Ram,  who belongs is not the sole property of one political party. There is no question about the greatness of Lord Ram, but he should not be used as a political tool,” Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee president Raj Babbar said.  

Mr Babbar released a Congress vision document for the upcoming municipal elections and said that it was based on the vision of late PM Rajiv Gandhi who favoured decentralisation of power and empowerment at the grassroots level.

The vision document titled ‘Haq Purti Patra’, seeks to empower the urban local bodies on the lines of the village panchayats.

Mr Babbar said that corruption in the local bodies was responsible for the near collapse of the system and this had led to deaths of children in eastern UP.

The vision document lists around 30 points, which include cleanliness, better drainage system, planting of trees, beautification of parks, maintenance of roads, hygiene in slum areas, upgradation of educational institutions, hospitals run by the local municipal bodies among others.
