BJP minister says PM Modi to fight from MP

Guna Lok Sabha seat is currently represented by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Bhopal: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national vice-president Prabhat Jha on Saturday created a flutter in his party by announcing that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was going to contest from Guna Lok Sabha constituency in Madhya Pradesh in 2019 general elections.

Mr Jha made the “startling” announcement while addressing the state BJP youth wing meet at district headquarters of Guna.

“I am going to make a big revelation here. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to contest from Guna Lok Sabha constituency in the forthcoming general elections”, he said creating a ripple at the meet.

Uttar Pradesh minister and in-charge of Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh Swatantra Dev Singh was also present on the occasion. Guna Lok Sabha seat is currently represented by All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Mr Jha however later retracted his statement clarifying that he made the announcement to charge the party workers and there should be no further political debate on the matter.

Incidentally, senior Congress leader and sitting Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Laxman Singh’s wife immediately posted the video showing Mr Jha making the announcement in her Twitter account, causing huge embarrassment to the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Mr Laxman Singh is brother of former chief minister and senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh.
