Lashkar-e-Tayyaba rejects Ramzan truce
SRINAGAR: Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) has rejected the Ramzan truce announced by the Centre on Wednesday. The outfit has termed it as a “drama”.
LeT spokesman Dr. Abdullah Ghaznavi while quoting the outfit chief Mahmood Shah said that “ceasefire is no option and no thought can be given on such compromise.”
He added, “We deem it as sin and disgrace to the sacrifices made in the freedom struggle. We are the heirs of the martyrs. Opting for such choice is treachery to blood of martyrs and there can be no disgrace like this.”
He said that the announcement made by the Union home ministry “is nothing but a drama.”
The LeT spokesman added, “It may be a wish of India and its few sympathisers and nothing else. (General) Bipin Rawat is of the opinion that he may threaten Kashmiris by imposing atrocities on students.
It has neither happened before nor will it happen now. We were active in the resistance before and so we will be in future.”
He, however, also said that the LeT was in favour of holding talks on the issue of Kashmir “but it can’t happen while Indian forces are in the state.”
Meanwhile, hours after the Centre announced cessation of military operations against militants during the holy month of Ramzan, a gunfight broke out between militants and the security forces in Jamnagri village of Shopian district of the valley.
