Bhopal: Senior IAS officer and principal secretary, culture department of Madhya Pradesh government Manoj Srivastav on Monday stirred a row by saying that the recently released Bollywood movie Newton was nominated for Oscar because of the poor portrayal of democracy in India in the film.

In a Facebook post, he slammed the way the movie poked fun at the election system of India raising question marks on the functioning of democracy in India.

"If that is so, then our democracy should be given credit for preserving the tribal culture till date", he remarked apparently sarcastically. The movie projected the tribals disconnected from government.
