Patna: A scuffle broke out between supporters of JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar and Bajrang Dal activists in Bihar’s Begusarai district on Tuesday.

The incident took place near Dahia village under Bhagwanpur police station when Mr Kumar and his supporters were returning from a public meeting.

“Bajrang Dal activists were protesting against Kanhaiya Kumar, which led to a massive scuffle between both the groups,” sources from Begusarai said.

Reports suggest that around a dozen people were injured and several vehicles were vandalised in the incident. An FIR has been filed against both the groups.

Mr Kumar has been politically active in the area after CPI (Communist Party of India) recently gave hints that he may contest 2019 general elections from Begusarai. Reports suggest that he has the support from RJD-Congress-led Mahagathbandhan in Bihar.

BJP has also been trying to find a suitable candidate to contest from Begusarai and has prepared a list of leaders with strong political backing in the constituency. Political analysts are of the opinion that BJP may field a candidate who has emerged as a strong Hindutva face in Bihar.

BJP’s Bhola Singh had emerged as a winner in the 2014 general elections by defeating RJD candidate Tanveer Hasan by 58,000 votes. The CPI candidate came third.

Kanhaiya Kumar, being considered as a joint candidate by the grand secular alliance here, has given hope to the Left parties who have been trying to regain its support base in Begusarai.
