New Delhi: Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj came across a post by a man who alleged he would “commit suicide” if he was unable to return to India from Saudi Arabia.

The man, identified as Ali tweeted:

"Sir, tell me one thing, can you help me or should I kill myself? It has been about 12 months that I have been pleading for help from the embassy. It would be a huge help if you can send me to India. I have four children."

Ali has been seeking the help of the Indian embassy in Riyadh for the last one year for getting back to India.

Swaraj replied:

"Don't think about suicide. We are there for you. Our embassy will help you."

Swaraj then asked the Indian embassy in Riyadh to send a report on man’s complaint.

When Ali was sked to send a copy of his visa page and phone number, he said he doesn't have a copy of the visa but has an "iqama".

"Iqama" is a residential permit given to those who arrive in Saudi Arabia on emploment visa.

Swaraj is known for her prompt replies on Twitter to Indians abroad who seek ministry’s help.  In the past, she has resolved genuine problems related to visas and immigration.
