Monsoon Session: Both Houses adjourned after obituaries to Khanna, Dave

Proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned after paying tributes to sitting and some former members, who passed away recently.

New Delhi: The Monsoon session of Parliament got underway on Monday, and both Houses were adjourned for the day after obituary references to Vinod Khanna and Anil Dave.

Proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned after paying tributes to sitting and some former members, who passed away recently. On the first day of the session, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah and Indian Union Muslim League leader P.K. Kunhalikutty took oath as members of Lok Sabha.

While Mr Abdullah won the Srinagar bypoll, Mr Kunhalikutty registered victory from Malappuram constituency; Mr Abdullah took oath in Kashmiri, while Kunhalikutty preferred English.

Khanna, who was a Lok Sabha member from Gurdaspur, died in April at the age of 70. Dave (60), Union minister for environment and forest, passed away in May.

Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned as a mark of respect to departed sitting members — minister Anil Madhav Dave and MP Palvai Govardhan Reddy.
