Malegaon blast: Order on Col's plea reserved by top court
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved verdict on the special leave petition of Col. Purohit, seeking bail in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case after the Bombay high court rejected his plea for bail.
The high court had held that there are grave charges against Purohit and there is prima facie evidence for proceeding with the trial. Purohit was arrested in November 2008 and was accused of helping in the formation of a right-wing outfit, Abhinav Bharat.
The NIA had charge sheeted Purohit for taking part in conspiracy meetings and even agreed to arrange for the explosives to be used in the Malegaon blast.
The SC bench reserved verdict at the conclusion of arguments from senior counsel for Purohit, additional solicitor general for the NIA and senior counsel for the son of one of the victims.
