Kamal Nath will contest polls from Chhindwara

Nath currently represents the Chhindwara Lok Sabha constituency. He has won elections from Chhindwara nine times so far.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath is all set to contest the by-elections from Chhindwara Assembly constituency to enter the House.

The Congress MLA from Chhindwara seat, Deepak Saxena, announced on Monday that he would resign from the seat on Wednesday to pave way for Mr Nath to contest the by-elections from the constituency.

Mr Nath currently represents the Chhindwara Lok Sabha constituency. He has won elections from Chhindwara nine times so far.

Sources close to Mr Nath told this newspaper that his son, Nakul, is most likely to contest from his father’s traditional seat, Chhindwara parliamentary constituency, in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. In fact, he has already started campaigning in the parliamentary constituency.

“The chief minister wants to keep Chhindwara parliamentary constituency with his family,” sources added.

Reportedly, Mr Nath’s wife, Alka, had once represented the seat. Interestingly, the Congress circle was earlier rife with speculations that AICC (All India Congress Committee) president Rahul Gandhi might also contest from Chhindwara apart from Amethi — the seat that he currently represents — in the upcoming LS elections.

However, Mr Nath sought to field his son in the constituency in the forthcoming general elections, setting at rest all such rumours. His son is hitherto looking after his constituency.
