New Delhi: The telecast of longest running television series in India, Krishi Darshan, has been discontinued on the national channel. The programme, which targets the farming country across the country will now be seen in a new and contemporary avatar on DD Kisan.

Sources stated that the programme, which was being broadcast on the national channel of the public service broadcaster since 26 January 1967, will now be aired on the farmers specific channel of Doordarshan. DD Kisan channel was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 26 May 2015. It is understood that the programme would now be funded by the Union agriculture ministry instead of the Information and Broadcasting ministry. The decision to stop the programme on the national channel was taken after it was found that it was not being watched through analogue signals through terestrial broadcast. Through the Kisan channel the reach of the programme would be much wider. "A dedicated two hour duration for five days a week is being scheduled for Krishi Darshan on DD Kisan," sources added. Sources stated that it was also felt that the content of the programme was not in sync with the ones being aired on the national. It was believed that Krishi Darshan would be able to reach to its target audience much better if it was aired on a specialised channel catering to the needs of farmers. Krishi Darshan was produced for DD National channel.
