According to former AUSU president Richa Singh, the attack was engineered by a criminal coterie close to the vice-chancellor.

Lucknow: Violence erupted on the campus of the Allahabad University on Tuesday when students demanding the resignation of the vice-chancellor were brutally beaten up and attacked with bombs.

The students had been protesting for more than a week against vice- chancellor R.L. Hangloo, after an audio clip and WhatsApp chat reportedly figuring him went viral in which he is heard indulging in obscene chat with a woman promising her a job.

The students agitation led by the Samajwadi Chhatra Sabha affiliated Allahabad University Students Union (AUSU) had been joined by other student organisations including the ABVP.

According to former AUSU president Richa Singh, the attack was engineered by a criminal coterie close to the vice-chancellor.

The students have lodged two FIRs under relevant sections of the IPC against the vice- chancellor, Registrar and other University authorities at the Colonelganj police station.
