His kin moved bail application in the district and sessions court citing his ill health.

Bhopal: One of the seven people convicted in the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy was on Wednesday arrested and later granted bail by court here.

Shakeel Qureshi, who was shift in-charge and operator of MIC production unit of the factory when the tragedy happened, was arrested in Nagpur in Maharashtra by CBI and brought to Bhopal in an ambulance for production in the district and sessions court here on Wednesday.

His kin moved bail application in the district and sessions court citing his ill health. The court granted him bail, Shakeel’s counsel said.

Shakeel along with seven other accused was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment in the case in June 2010. After the lower court granted them bail, they moved the district and sessions court challenging the trial court’s verdict.
