Class 10 students to be compensated for error
New Delhi: Class 10 students of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be awarded two marks for a typing error in the English question paper.
The exam was held on March 12 and the question papers had certain errors in a comprehension passage section, following which many students and teachers had approached the board, requesting that grace marks be given.
Students had to read a passage and write synonyms for the words endurance, obstruction, and motivation. But the paragraphs they were supposed to look at were incorrectly marked, they had said in an online petition.
“The typing error has been noticed and it has been board’s policy to not let students face any disadvantage. The marking scheme has been decided in interest of students and all those who appeared for the particular question will be awarded two marks,” a senior CBSE official said.
Earlier on March 19, the CBSE had said it was undecided on providing compensation to Class 10 students for the error in the English question paper.
The Class 10 and 12 board examinations began on March 5 and the Class 10 exam concluded on April 4 and the Class 12 exam will conclude by April 25, the day the CBSE will conduct the re-test for its Economics paper, which was leaked before the exam.
