Madhya Pradesh youth held for offensive comment
Bhopal: A youth in a Madhya Pradesh town was arrested for posting ‘objectionable’ comments against former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the police said on Sunday.
The accused, Javed Ansari, a garment trader in Maihar town in Satna district, had posted an “offensive” remark against the late Prime Minister on WhatsApp at 7.19 pm on August 17, according to the police.
“A member of the group, who is a local resident, filed a complaint after Javed Ansari shared the post on WhatsApp. He was arrested and remanded in judicial custody,” investigator A. Pandey said.
Javed was arrested on charges of circulating a post that ‘posed a threat to communal harmony besides hurting religious sentiments of a particular section of the society’.
He was also booked under the Information Technology Act.
A police probe gave a clean chit to the administrator of the WhatsApp group in the case after finding that he had objected to the comment and removed the accused from the group.
Javed told the police that he had merely forwarded the post, which was already in circulation on social media. The police, however, rejected his plea and arrested him.
