Bills to replace IPC introduced in Parliament

New Delhi: Lok Sabha on Tuesday  took up three bills for discussion that seek to replace the existing criminal laws of the country amidst suspension of 95 opposition members from the lower house.

Home minister Amit Shah is expected to give a reply to the discussion on Wednesday after which these bills will be taken up for voting.  The discussion on the bills went on till late in the night till around 9 pm after which the house was adjourned for Wednesday morning.

The redrafted Bharatiya Nyaya (Second) Sanhita, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita and the Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Bill were first listed for consideration on last Thursday but could not be taken up following opposition uproar over the December 13 Parliament security breach and their demand for a statement by the home minister on the issue. Some MPs said new bills will provide justice others pointed out “loopholes”.
