Periyar statue vandalised in Tamil Nadu

On information, the police and revenue officials rushed to the spot, put back the statue of Periyar on its pedestal and re-fixed the head.

Pudukkottai: Tension prevailed for almost the whole day on Tuesday as members of various political parties agitated in protest against miscreants vandalising a statue of rationalist leader Periyar past midnight on Monday at Vidhuthi village near Alangudi in Pudukkottai district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.

The police said some villagers passing through the area noticed the head of the statue had been removed, while its hands were also damaged. The severed head of the statue was found dumped nearby.

On information, the police and revenue officials rushed to the spot, put back the statue of Periyar on its pedestal and re-fixed the head.
