Mother influenced by BJP, says Arjun's son

The Congress leaders have a bad tendency to see politics in everything, says Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Bhopal: Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in Madhya Pradesh assembly Ajay Singh on Wednesday saw hand of ruling BJP in the unsavoury development in his family in which his mother, widow of late MP chief minister Arjun Singh, accused him of evicting her from their house.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan however rebutted the charges describing it Mr Singh’s “ghatiayapan”, which means height of cheap behaviour if translated into English.

“The Congress leaders have a bad tendency to see politics in everything. I hate to poke my nose into other’s family matters. But, I would like to advise the CLP leader It would be better for him to take care of his mother instead of giving the matter a political twist”, a visibly upset chief minister told reporters while reacting to the charges by Mr Singh.

The Congress leader’s mother, Saroj (84), moved the district court here on Tuesday demanding to ensure restoration of her rights and maintenance by her two sons.

She accused her two sons, Mr Singh and his elder brother Abhimanyu settled in Bengaluru, of harassing her and evicting her of their house, owned by her husband and later transferred to the name of the CLP leader in a family deed.

“My mother was instigated by someone to go against me. She was not willing to stay with her two sons and was comfortable to live with her daughter Veena. Our relations with our sister have strained long ago over some political reasons”, the Congress leader said.

“It is not only sad, but a tragedy if a family matter comes out into open. I tried to resolve the matter several times in the past, but all my efforts have so far yielded no result”, he said and alleged that the BJP has turned his mother against him to settle political scores with him after he decided to bring no-confidence motion against the Shivraj government in the ensuing monsoon session.
