New school course on crime prevention

The second topic will deal with values and ethics, respect for elders, empathy and sympathy, patience, team spirit and discipline.

New Delhi: The home and HRD ministries are all set to launch a Student Police Cadet (SPC) programme for students of Classes 8 and 9 on crime prevention and control, along with values and ethics. The programme seeks to build the bridge between the police and the larger community through school students by inculcating values and ethics in them through classes in school and outside.

The programme is scheduled to be launch-ed all over the country on Saturday. Officials said though the programme will focus on school students of Classes 8 and 9, special care has been taken to ensure that it does not lead to increase in the workload of the students. It has been ensured that the programme does not have any prescribed text book nor is any exam envisaged and only one class a month is proposed to cover both the topics of crime prevention and control as well as values and ethics.

As part of the course, topics like community policing, road safety, fight against social evils, safety of women & children, fight against corruption and disaster management will be covered.
