Copter deal: CBI sends documents to MEA

The CBI had filed chargesheet against former Air Chief Marshal SP Tyagi and others in the case.

New Delhi: The CBI has initiated the process of sending all required documents to the Ministry of External Affairs for intimating the authorities concerned in Italy about the ‘non-bailable warrants’ (NBW) issued against three foreign nationals in the multi-crore AgustaWestland helicopter deal case.

Sources in the agency said, “The NBW issued by the concerned court will be sent to the authorities concerned in Italy through diplomatic channel. The agency has initiated the process”.

A Delhi court recently issued a non-bailable warrant against three foreign nationals GR Heshke, C.V. Gerosa and Christen M. James in AgustaWestland case. The court’s order came after the CBI counsel demanded their arrest in the VVIP chopper deal case.

The CBI had filed chargesheet against former Air Chief Marshal SP Tyagi and others in the case.

After taking cognizance of the CBI chargesheet, the court asked the foreign nationals to appear before the court on December 20.

The CBI had informed the court that specifications were changed to favour the AgustaWestland company. The CBI had filed chargesheet against S.P. Tyagi and 10 others in the case. The chargesheet named as accused former Air Chief Marshal Tyagi’s cousin Sanjeev Tyagi, lawyer Gautam Khaitan, Carlo Gerosa and Guido Haschke, alleged middlemen Christian Michel, former AgustaWestland CEO Bruno Spagnolini and former Finmeccanica chairman Giuseppe Orsi.

“CBI’s investigation conducted and various documents collected so far have revealed that AgustaWestland International Ltd, UK allegedly paid an amount of Euro 58 million as kickbacks in India through Gordian Services Sarl, Tunisia and IDS Sarl, Tunisia”, sources said.
