Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday, the last of campaigning for Lok Sabha elections in Gujarat, that the Congress doesn’t have faith in the Army.

“Pakistan would have paid a big price if they had done anything wrong to our pilot. We have warned them. Even America at that time had said that India was going to do something big,” said Mr Modi at a public meeting in his home state, referring to Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.

Mr Modi was addressing a rally at Patan in North Gujarat, covering the Patan, Banaskantha and Mehsana Lok Sabha constituencies. Sunday was the last day of the campaign here as Gujarat votes on Tuesday, April 23, in the third phase.

“Our economy has grown and it is in the sixth position in the world, it was in the 11th position during the UPA rule. We have decided to ensure that every family of the country will have their own house by 2022,” Mr Modi promised.

He said the Congress and other Opposition parties had been asking for proof of the Pulwama and Balakot attacks “but they are silent now”.

Making a strong emotional pitch on his home turf, the Prime Minister recalled childhood

memories: “I know each and every street of this town. The first photograph of my life was taken by a studio here. Wherever I go in the world and whatever I am today, I will remain yours. And that’s why I am here to seek your support.”
