Lucknow: The passport official who humiliated an inter-faith couple who had applied for a passport, has been transferred on the directives of the ministry of external; affairs and has also been served a show cause notice.

The inter-faith couple was called to the passport office on Thursday and their passports were handed over to them.

The couple—Muslim husband and Hindu wife—were asked uncomfortable questions including why the wife Tanvi Seth had not changed her name after marriage and why the husband Mohammad Anas did not convert to Hinduism.

The couple, on Wednesday, tweeted to external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj narrating the humiliation they had to face at the city passport office and within hours, a probe was ordered into the incident. The accused officer Vikas Misra has been transferred.

Talking to reporters on Thursday, Vikas Misra said, “I was only doing my duty according to rules.  I raised questions at the fact that the ‘nikahnama’ says that the wife is a Muslim  and her name is Shadia Anas but her passport application form says she is Hindu and her name is Tanvi Seth”.
