Noisy protest by Cong forces RS adjournment for 5th day

The Lok Sabha, which has also been facing a ruckus, managed to pass four bills.

New Delhi: Buoyed by the verdict in the 2G case by a special court, an upbeat Congress on Thursday refused to heed the Chair’s plea in the Rajya Sabha for smooth functioning of the House, forcing Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu to adjourn it for the day. The Upper House had already been witnessing a ruckus and repeated adjournments since the start of the Winter Session on December 15 over the Congress demanding a clarification from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks against his predecessor Manmohan Singh, but still managed to pass two bills. Nominated member Sachin Tendulkar also could not make his maiden speech on the future of sports in the country due to the Congress’ protests. The Lok Sabha, which has also been facing a ruckus, managed to pass four bills.

Soon after the Upper House met for the day, Mr Naidu asked the members to lay the papers on the table and then allowed Leader of the Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad to speak.

“Till yesterday we had been demanding the PM’s clarification on his remarks against Manmo-han Singhji, but today another incident took pla-ce and now we want a clarification on both issu-es,” Mr Azad said, deman-ding that the BJP should now prove on what basis it had alleged that there was a scandal of '1.76 lakh crores in the 2G allocation.
