Office-of-profit: Congress to move President against 11 BJP MLAs

RTI activist Rakesh Choubey has also filed a PIL in the high court in this regard.

Bhopal: The Chhattisgarh unit of Congress on Monday decided to move President seeking disqualification of 11 state BJP legislators for holding office-of-profit as parliamentary secretaries.

AICC spokesman Mohmmad Akbar told the media at Raipur that he had earlier drawn the attention of Election Commission to the appointment of 11 ruling BJP MLAs by the Raman Singh government as parliamentary secretaries and sought their disqualification.

“However, the EC wanted the demand made through the governor of Chhattisgarh. Hence, I have made several representations to the governor in the recent past demanding action in the matter. However, no action has so far been taken in the matter.

“I have then been forced to move the high court seeking disqualification of these MLAs for holding office-of-profit,” he said, adding, that he has decided to draw attention of the President to the issue.

RTI activist Rakesh Choubey has also filed a PIL in the high court in this regard. The issue has come to the centrestage in Chhattisgarh politics following disqualification of 20 AAP MLAs on similar grounds.
