Mehbooba Mufti demands release of Yasin Malik

Pakistan on Monday condemned Malik's continuing incarceration and expressed its concern over his deteriorating healthâ€.

SRINAGAR: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday demanded immediate release of separatist leader Muhammad Yasin Malik in view of his failing health.

While speaking to reporters in southern Kulgam district, she said “I would like to appeal the government to release Yasin Malik immediately so that he receives required treatment. God forbid, if something bad happens to him, the outcome would be catastrophic.”

She also urged the government to allow Malik’s Pakistani wife Mushaal Hussein Mullick and their seven-year old daughter Razia Sultana to visit India to meet him.

Ms Mullick, had while addressing media in Lahore on Sunday, said that she wants to go to India to meet her ailing husband who is on hungerstrike for past two weeks due to which his health has worsened. She urged the Pakistani government to take up the issue. Pakistan on Monday condemned Malik’s continuing incarceration and expressed its concern over his “deteriorating health”.
