New Delhi: There would be no change in the existing building at the Teen Murti Bhavan complex, which was made to highlight the contribution of first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, decided the general body of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) society in a meeting chaired by home minister Rajnath Singh.

The meeting was also attended by Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Karan Singh among others.  Following the meeting, Mr Singh said, “Though there was a general discussion on the issue, there was no final decision. Teen Murti is basically a heritage building so it was agreed that there would be no tinkering with the original structure.’’

The senior Congress leader however pointed out that the existing structure might be upgraded and even a new building might come up but all this would be done with complete co-operation of everyone. Even Rajya Sabha MP Swapan Dasgupta, who happens to be a member of the NMML executive council, also claimed that the sanctity of the building would remain intact.

Mr Singh also clarified that there would be no denigration of the present Teen Murti Bhavan structure. “There is a plan to make a gallery of former Prime Ministers but this is still at the drawing board stage. Subsequently, it will be done but only after the approval of experts,’’ Mr Dasgupta said.

Even NMML director Shakti Sinha said that a plan to make a memorial for all former prime ministers was still at a concept stage though the issue came up for discussion. Among other issues taken up at the meeting was the annual budget and projects of the NMML and also discussed the action-taken report of the society for the year 2015-17.
