Panel set up to look into various aspects of CDS

In this scenario, the CDS will be first among the equal with other chiefs of the services.

New Delhi: The committee that will look into different aspects of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) will have to decide whether the new position should be like a permanent chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee or all powerful one man head of all armed forces.

The government is likely to take a more calibrated stand, and the new CDS will be like a permanent chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee with control of training of all the services and acquisitions to avoid duplication.

“If the CDS is like a permanent chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee, then he will have control over logistics and training. He will drive defence diplomacy which, is common to all the services and important in the current scenario,” said sources. In this scenario, the CDS will be first among the equal with other chiefs of the services.
