People desert J&K border villages after Pak shelling
Srinagar: Dozens of families have fled their homes in frontier Uri and Karnah areas of J&K’s Baramulla and Kupwara districts and relocated to safer places in the wake of flare up in cross-LoC shelling.
On Thursday, heavy mortar shelling by the Pakistani troops had caused extensive damage to, at least, three private houses in Uri sector of Baramulla. The cross-LoC firing and shelling caused panic also among the people living in close proximity to the de facto border in neighbouring Kupwara’s Tangdar and Karnah areas. The intense firing and shelling took place near the Indian Army posts Madayan and Toli following which people living in nearby villages started shifting to safer locations, reports said.
Confirming it, J&K’s DGP Shesh Paul Vaid said that as many as 500 people had shifted to safer places in Uri till Friday afternoon.
A report from Uri said that 35-40 families shifted to safer places from Silikote, Chuninda, Batgaren, Balkote and Tilawari hamlets on Friday. The officials said that the Pakistani troops violated ceasefire also in Nowshehra sector in Rajouri district on Friday.
