IndiGo enters Myanmar, connects Yangon with Kolkata
Kolkata: With an eye to boost tourism and economic growth IndiGo, the private Indian airline, on Wednesday announced of its entry to Myanmar adding Yangon as the 18th international destination in its growing network. It will operate daily non-stop flight on the Kolkata-Yangon route from September 20. Yangon will be IndiGo’s 77th overall destination also.
The company has kept bookings open with one-way fares starting at Rs 5,999. While the 6E 1398 flight will take off from the city at 11.30 am landing at Yangon at 2.30 pm, the 6E 1399 will fly from Yangon at 15.30 pm landing at Kolkata in an hour.
IndiGo Chief Commercial Officer William Boulter said, "In line with our international expansion strategy, we are excited to announce Yangon as our new international destination. We see significant traffic coming from Yangon to the Buddhist circuit thereby enhancing economic growth and tourism in India. This new route will strengthen the cultural relationship between the two countries and will boost trade, tourism and mobility."
He added, "IndiGo will continue to expand its network to meet the requirements of both business and leisure travellers wherever they demand. It is our constant endeavour to provide more flexibility of choice to our customers as IndiGo continues to offer them on-time, courteous and hassle-free service, and an affordable flying experience."
