Bhopal: A key accused in Vyapam scandal, a self-styled god man and an ex-RSS leader have figured in the list of 40 star campaigners of Congress declared for Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday.

Taking Congress men by surprise, the party declared Gulab Singh Kirar, one of the key accused in Vyapam scandal involving corruptions in admissions in MBBS courses in various medical colleges in MP, as one of its star campaigners for the party in the four-phase Lok Sabha elections in the state, scheduled to be held during April 29-May 19.

Kirar joined Congress four months ago. His admission in the party was opposed tooth and nail then by a section of Congress here because of his alleged involvement in the infamous Vyapam scam.

Congress however tried to play down the issue saying that he was given a clean chit by the court in the case.

The party’s decision to declare gadget-savvy ‘seer’ Namdevdas Tyagi who loves to address himself as Compute Baba, as one of its star campaigners has also caused a flutter in Congress circle here.

Computer Baba along with four other religious gurus was accorded status of minister of state during the previous Shivraj Singh Chouhan, leading to an uproar in the country then.

Interestingly, the self-styled god man who had campaigned against BJP in the 2018 Assembly elections was appointed head of a committee set up to work for preservation of Narmada river, by the Kamal Nath government.

Similarly, ex-RSS leader and former minister in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government Ramakrishna Kusumaria who had joined Congress six months ago for being denied ticket in the 2018 assembly elections, also figured in the list of star campaigners of the party.

Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Kamal  Nath, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kamal Nath besides film stars like Govinda, and Nagma have figured in the list.
