'Will remember his presence': Sonia, Rahul write to Arun Jaitley's wife

She spoke about his sharp intellect and ability to communicate in every cabinet position he held.

New Delhi: In a letter to former finance minister Arun Jaitley's wife, Congress' interim president Sonia Gandhi expressed her condolonces.

She said, "Shri Arun Jaitley was a person who attracted friends and admirers across political spectrum in every walk of life."

She spoke about his sharp intellect and ability to communicate in every cabinet position he held.

"His sharp intellect and ability and his communication skills were evident in every cabinet position he held, in his role as Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and as a senior advocate at the Supreme Court."

Stating his death as tragic Sonia Gandhi said, "Arun Jaitley fought his illness with great courage, his spirit indomitable till the end."

"Words are of letter consolation at this time of grief, but I wanted you and your son to know that I share your pain," she added.

Sonia Gandhi was seen hugging Sangeeta Jaitley on Saturday when she went to pay respects to him.

Former Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also wrote a letter to Sangeeta Jaitley saying that Arun Jaitley left his mark on politics.

"Although, his voice will no longer reverberate within the hallowed portals of the Parliament, we will remember his precense," he said.
