Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh is planning to make education free up to Class 12 or intermediate level. An announcement to this effect is likely to be made soon by the chief minister.

UP minister Om Prakash Rajbhar told reporters that parents who do not send their children to school will be convinced to ensure education for the children.

The minister had earlier stated that parents who do not send their children to school will be sent to jail.

“We have four months before the new academic session begins and we will use this time to convince parents about the importance of education. If they still do not relent, we will take strict action against such parents,” he said.

The minister said that the free education scheme would particularly benefit the backward sections of society. “The children belonging to these sections of society can receive education and build a new future for themselves. They can improve their financial situation  by getting better jobs,” he said. The free education policy is a part of the Yogi government’s efforts to improve the educational standards.
