New Delhi: The government has issued a show cause notice to two television news channels for broadcasting the media briefing of Pakistan Army spokesperson Major General Asif Ghafoor in Rawalpindi on February 22 in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror strike.

In the notice, the information and broadcasting ministry has alleged that the channels had violated its advisory issued on February 14 in the aftermath of the Pulwama attack that killed 40 CRPF jawans.

The channels have been asked to respond within seven days with a reason as to why the government should not initiate action against them, source stated.

After the terror attack, the ministry had advised channels not to air any content that might incite violence, affect law and order, promote anti- national attitude and affect the integrity of the nation.

“The broadcast had violated Rules6[1](e) and 6[1][h] of the Programming Code which had been mentioned in the advisory: carrying a programme likely to ‘encourage or incite violence or ... anything against maintenance of law and order or which promotes anti-national attitudes’, and carrying a programme ‘which contains anything affecting the integrity of the nation’,” the notice added.
