Dig at Digvijay govt: Sadhvi gets poll panel's clean chit
Bhopal: The BJP nominee for Bhopal Pragya Singh Thakur whose ‘terrorist jibe’, purportedly directed at her Congress rival and former chief minister Digvijay Singh, set off a storm in the political circles here, was on Friday given clean chit by the Election Commission in the matter.
She however, made a u-turn disowning her re-marks on Friday. She had purportedly called the decade-long-tenure of the Digvijay Singh government in 1993-2003, a ‘terrorist regime’. “I have never described Mr Singh as a terrorist,” he said.
While addressing an election meeting in the district headquarters of Sehore, the EC on Thursday took suo motu congnizance of her remarks and directed the local district collector to probe the matter.
The Sehore district collector, who is also district election officer (DEO), on Friday submitted the report saying that she has not violated model code of conduct ofelections.
In another development, Pragya’s namesake who filed nomination for Bhopal as an independent candidate on Friday withdrew her nomination.
Pragya approached her namesake, Pragya Singh Thakur, and appealed her to withdraw from contest. Following this, her namesake withdrew her nomination staving off the prospects of splitting of her votes.
Sources said RSS was closely monitoring her campaign to ensure that she did not land in trouble for her comments, which would attract actions for violation of model code of conduct.
Pragya has visited no less than a dozen times to state RSS headquarters here for getting briefs on the matter, sources said.
