New UP BSP chief named, Rajbhar promoted

BSP president Mayawati on Saturday made some organisational changes in her party.

Lucknow: BSP president Mayawati on Saturday made some organisational changes in her party.

State BSP president Ram Achal Rajbhar has been elevated to the position of national general secretary while Mr R.S. Kushwaha has been appointed the new state president of the BSP.

Mr Rajbhar will also be in charge of BSP units in Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Bihar.

Mr Rajbhar is the first party national general secretary to be appointed after Naseemuddin Siddiqui quit the BSP exactly a year ago.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to free the BSP of the blame of dynastic rule, Ms Mayawati amended the party’s constitution barring close relatives of party president from holding organisational posts.

She said that her brother Anand Kumar who had been appointed party vice president last year, would now serve the party as an ordinary worker. She added that in future no national president would appoint any close relative for any organisational post of the party. However, they were free to work as ordinary members.

The BSP also appointed two national coordinators — Vir Singh advocate and Jai Prakash Singh. Sources said that a number of coordinators had also been changed while some had been given additional responsibilities.
