New Delhi: Home minister Rajnath Singh again assured residents of Assam on Thursday saying there was “no cause for worry’’ if their names are not included in the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The home minister reiterated that people will get adequate time to register claims and objections and if someone was not satisfied, they can also approach the foreign tribunal.

Talking to the media on the sidelines of an event Mr Singh while assuring residents of Assam said, “All I can say is that there is no reason for any worry.’’ The NRC draft will be published on July 30.

On Wednesday, the home ministry had asked the Assam Government not to initiate any action against those whose names are not included in the NRC to detention centres. The ministry had stated “There is no question of referring the persons whose names do not figure in the draft NRC to the Foreigners’ Tribunal as people are entitled to file claims and objections and due opportunity has to be given to them before final publication.’’

The Centre has also deputed 22,000 para-military personnel in the state to deal with any incident of violence in wake the NRC being published next week. In addition, the state government has been asked to set up co-ordination committee headed by the Chief Secretary in dealing with all concerned agencies. A round-the-clock control rooms has been set up at the state capital. as well as district headquarters to receive complaints and co-ordinate prompt response.

The main purpose of formulating the NRC is to identify illegal migrants, particularly from Bangladesh and it is being conducted following a 2005 agreement between the Centre, State Government and the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU).
