Senior Cong leaders skip rally organised by Diggy

Bhopal: Several senior Congress leaders, including Guna MP Jyotiraditya Scindia and party’s legislature wing chief Ajey Singh, “skipped” the party rally organised here on Thursday to protest against the anti-national tag given to AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh recently by chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The AICC leader led the rally, flagged off by PCC president Kamal Nath at the state Congress headquarters here, which converged at T.T. Nagar police station here where Mr Singh offered to be arrested “since the chief minister termed him as anti-national”.

The police, however, refused to arrest him since “no complain was registered against him” in this regard.

Mr Digvijay Singh said the chief minister should offer public apology for dubbing him as anti-national if the latter failed to produce evidence to establish the charges.

Sources close to Mr Jyotiraditya Scindia, however, said that he was not able to attend the event because of his preoccupation. with ongoing parliament session.

Mr Scindia arrived here in the evening from Delhi to attend a party meeting.The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mr Singh was away in Vindhya region of MP to conduct “Nyaya Yatra”, a programme launched by him recently to highlight incidents of violence against women and downtrodden in the state.
