Stalemate in Rajya Sabha to end soon?

Presently, the Congress is emboldened after the Gujarat assembly results that it terms as a moral victory.

New Delhi: The present stalemate in the Rajya Sabha is maybe heading towards a resolution.

The Congress has been demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should let the House know about the “conspiracy-with-Pakistan” remarks made during Gujarat poll campaign. But now, a middle path seems to be emerging. Sources indicate that the Congress has conveyed to the government that if a statement is read out in the House endorsing the credibility of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and the entire house endorses the statement, then the deadlock can end. However, the catch is that when the statement is being read out, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should be present in the Upper House.

However, the final deal is yet to be sealed. A final call from both sides is expected to be taken on Wednesday morning before the House reconvenes.

In the last week, the Parliament saw disruptions as members of the Congress stormed the well of the house demanding an apology from the Prime Minister. Chairman of the Rajya Sabha M. Venkaiha Naidu had also intervened in a bid to solve the current impasse. A meeting between the former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Mr Naidu also took place to solve the impasse.
