BJP, Cong politics on hold after Sri death

Take media break as briefings might not get prime slots'.

New Delhi: With the legendary actor Sridevi’s death hogging the media and politics taking a back seat, both the BJP and the Congress seem to have taken a pause from attack and counter-attack over the bank frauds, including the Nirav Modi case. Sridevi died on Saturday due to accidental drowning in a Dubai-based luxury hotel’s bathtub.

The Congress, which had been gunning at the BJP-ruled NDA and Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the bank frauds, ever since the Nirav Modi case came to the fore, did not hold any press conference this week. The BJP also cancelled its scheduled press briefing on Tuesday which was to addressed by a Union Cabinet minister. Both the parties, it was learnt, felt that since the news channels were busy covering the death of the actress, their briefings “might not get the prime time slot”.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who had been speaking and tweeting against the governm-ent over the bank frauds, tweeted on Tuesday about the transfer of a judge who was hearing the revision applications in the Sohrabuddin encounter case at the Bombay high court. The two issues — bank frauds and Justice Loya’s death — will be taken up by the Opposition in Parliamnet to corner the government. The Congress will also be raking up the Rafale deal in the Budget Seesion, which will commence next week after a break.

The Congress president tweeted: “The Sohrabud-din case claims yet another Judge. Justice Revati Dere, who challenged the CBI has been removed. Judge J.T. Utpat, asked Amit Shah to appear and was removed. Judge Loya asked tough questions. He died. #HowDidLoyaDie?”

Feedback reaching the government had suggested that the Opposition party was gaining the perception war on the Nirav Modi issue despite Cabinet ministers holding the fort before the media against the Opposition’s attack.
