JD-U, BJP divided on mantri son arrest

Warrant of arrest was issued against Arijit Shaswat on Sunday for inciting communal violence that broke out in Bhagalpur on March 17.

Patna: The political turmoil continues in Bihar as the JD (U) and BJP remain divided on the issue of Union minister Ashwini Choubey’s son Arijit Shaswat who has been evading arrest despite a warrant of arrest issued against him.

Warrant of arrest was issued against Arijit Shaswat on Sunday for inciting communal violence that broke out in Bhagalpur on March 17.

Senior JD (U) leader KC Tyagi warned the BJP that if their leaders continued to give statements against the agenda of the state government “then NDA in Bihar may suffer”.

He said that the JD (U)-BJP combine in Bihar had emerged as a strong alliance in 2010 and statements against the agenda of NDA would only make Opposition parties stronger.
