New Delhi: Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir commencing on September 29.

During her visit the Defence Minister will meet senior commanders and will also take stock of security situation.

The Defence Minister is visiting the state when Pakistan sponsored terrorists have upped ante and Pakistan is continuously violating ceasefire.

Earlier on Tuesday, security forces gunned down Lashkar e- Islam Chief Abdul Qayoom Najar in an encounter near Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri sector.

Lashkar e- Islam Chief was trying to infiltrate from Lachipora in Uri when he was gunned down. He also carries a reward of Rs 10, 00,000 on his head.

Najar was the senior most active commander and thus the de-facto operational chief of Hizb.

The Indian Army had foiled an infiltration bid by Pakistan near Zorawar area of Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir and prevented a September 18, 2016 Uri-like attack.

The September 2016 attack was carried out by the terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammed, in which at least 23 army jawans were killed and several others were injured.
