Teen rape survivor buries her newborn

Bhopal: An alleged minor rape survivor in a Madhya Pradesh district buried alive her week-old baby boy to save her marriage, an investigation by police has revealed.

The infant, buried about ten inches under the ground close to her village in Barwani district on July three, was discovered by children playing in the area.

The children raised an alarm after hearing cries of the baby, leading locals to rish to the spot and rescue the kid.

The toddler was in very bad shape when he was brought out of the crater covered with a thin layer of mud, the investigating officer said on Friday.

“His face was smeared by mud making him difficult to breath. He also suffered injuries in his face following attack by insects after lying buried for about ten hours”, the police officer said.

Later, police identified his mother, a 16-year-old tribal girl - an alleged rape victim- in the village.

“She has recently been married in a village in neighbouring Maharashtra. She was pregnant when she got married. Her parents wanted to conceal her pregnancy to save her marriage and brought her to their home for delivery.

Later, they buried the kid to get rid of him”, police said.

The rape accused, the 17-year-old neighbour, was arrested on Thursday.

“The kid is recouping in the hospital. We are going to register a case of attempt to murder against the mother”, police said.
