Kashmiri inmates at Tihar attacked

Srinagar: As many as 18 Kashmiri prisoners including the son of a top militant commander were allegedly thrashed by security staff inside Delhi's Tihar jail recently, prompting chief minister, Mehbooba Mufti, to publicly express her concern.
On Tuesday, she spoke to Union home secretary, Rajiv Gauba, asking him to ensure such incidents do not reoccur.
"Taking a serious view of the reports about Kashmiri inmates being targeted inside the jail, the chief minister spoke to Mr Gauba to ask him to intervene in the matter," said an official spokesman.
He added that Mr Gauba assured the CM that the incident will be thoroughly probed and accused will be punished.
On Monday, there was a shutdown against the attacks on its prisoners in jails outside the state.
It was issued by the alliance of key separatist leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Faroooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik. The alliance called 'Joint Resistance Leadership' on Tuesday and appealed UN, the UNHRC and others to take a serious note of "torture" of Kashmiri prisoners in the Tihar jail.
