Sonia Gandhi in hospital with viral fever, to be discharged soon

Gandhi's daughter Priyanka was with her in the hospital while her son and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also visited her.

New Delhi: The Congress President Sonia Gandhi has been once again admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the national capital on Monday night. Mrs Gandhi was suffering from viral fever and is recovering. A statement from the hospital’s Board of Management chairman D.S. Rana said, “Sonia Gandhi has been admitted under the care of Dr Arun Kumar Basu, senior consultant in department of chest and pulmonology medicine, and his team of consultants. Mrs Gandhi’s routine tests are being conducted and is better today. She is likely to be discharged in a day or two.”

Earlier this year, the Congress president was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital when she had fallen ill during campaigning in Varanasi. She had to be airlifted to Delhi and was out of action for almost two months. She was operated upon for a shoulder injury also.

Mrs Gandhi’s daughter Priyanka was with her in the hospital while her son and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi also visited her on Tuesday.

Congress Chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that there is “no need to worry”. “The Congress president has been admitted to a hospital following viral fever. She will be discharged within two days. She will resume her Parliament duty soon. There is no cause for worry,” he added.
